Compare a household's monthly cooking bill on green hydrogen with LPG, charcoal and coal. The hydrogen price is built up from the full production chain: solar power, electrolysis and local distribution. Switch on social costs to add the health damage from smoky kitchens and the climate cost of each fuel.
How it works: every fuel is compared on the heat that actually reaches the pot (price ÷ energy content ÷ stove efficiency). Energy content: hydrogen 120, LPG 46.1, charcoal 29, coal 24 MJ/kg. The hydrogen price includes the electrolyser (with a stack replacement halfway through its life), maintenance, electricity and delivery. Health costs are a deliberately conservative estimate; mortality-based estimates from the World Bank are 5–6 times higher. Household air pollution from cooking with solid fuels is linked to about 3.2 million early deaths a year (WHO).
